SUMMARY:EXHIBIT: Fayette County in the Great War
DESCRIPTION:The Fayette Heritage Museum and Archives in La Grange has an exhibit\, “Fayette County in the Great War\,” that will be up through November 2018. We have uniforms\, letters\, official paperwork\, souvenirs\, red cross items\, many photographs\, and research materials about the servicemen who died\, both in the states and abroad. Of special interest are a collection of photographs of large reinterment ceremonies. We have already had several WWI talks and are in the process of planning more to be held in the Museum and Archives next year. \n

DESCRIPTION:Johnson County Goes to War: At Home and Abroad During World War I \nFree Museum Exhibit through February 28\, 2018. Tue-Fri 10-5\, Sat 10-4 at the Layland Museum. \nThe largest exhibit at the Layland in years marks the centennial year of America’s entry into World War I. Visitors can compare gas masks\, weapons and other equipment that were used by American and German troops. Photographs and letters give a more personal view of the war as experienced by Cleburne residents. The exhibition includes a speaker series organized in collaboration with the Cleburne Public Library. \n

SUMMARY:TEXAS IN THE FIRST WORLD WAR EXHIBIT - INSTITUTE OF TEXAN CULTURES
DESCRIPTION:Texas in the First World War\nApril 6\, 2017 – March 11\, 2018\n\nOne hundred years ago\, the United States entered the “War to End All Wars.” This idealistic hope of the “Great War” leading to lasting world peace would instead devastate large parts of the globe\, and set in motion events taking humanity directly to yet another world war within decades. \n“Texas in the First World War” Explores the role of the Lone Star State in this pivotal world event. Co-curated by students from the University of Texas at San Antonio\, research began with a semester-long course on World War I where students explored the war as a whole\, then took a closer look at activities in the state. \nBy the end of the war\, 198\,000 men and 450 Texan women would serve in the military alongside civilian volunteers both at home and overseas. Through images\, stories\, and artifacts\, Texas in the First World War sheds light on the legacy of a global conflict that still heavily influences world affairs\, politics\, and alliances to this day. \n\n

Visitors will be provided an iPad with apps preloaded on the device. These interactive apps have maps\, timelines\, photographs\, and videos about World War 1. As visitors tour the exhibit\, they will also be able to use the iPads to scan QR codes linked to videos\, podcasts\, documentaries\, photographs\, documents\, songs and websites to learn about WWI. \n
