SUMMARY:LECTURE: “The Horse and the Mule: Forgotten Heroes of World War I”
DESCRIPTION:The Witte Museum is proud to present a program for Veterans Day this Saturday\, November 11\, 2017. Lieutenant Colonel\, U.S. Army Ret. Larry W. Luckett will give a presentation entitled “The Horse and the Mule: Forgotten Heroes of World War I\,” at 11:00 a. m. and at 1:00 p. m. in the Will Smith Classroom in the Robert J. and Helen C. Kleberg South Texas Heritage Center and is free with museum admission. A Curatorial Gallery Talk by Chief Curator Amy Fulkerson and Co-Curator and  Researcher Katherine Nelson Hall will be held in the exhibit at 2:00 p.m. Free Admission for active duty and retired military and their families on November 11\, 2017 is generously sponsored by Raytheon. \nThe museum is currently featuring Your Country Calls is located in the Russell Hill Rogers Texas Art Gallery of the Robert J. and Helen C. Kleberg South Texas Heritage Center. The exhibit supports the national effort to commemorate the United States entry into the war in partnership with the Texas World War I Centennial Commission. The posters featured are from the Witte Museum Hertzberg Circus Collection. Texas State Senator Harry Hertzberg collection of the First World War Posters are closely related to his renowned circus collection\, as many of the same printing companies and artists were involved in the production of posters for the circus and war effort. Come discover the images that were vital in defining public opinion about America entrance into the First World War. The posters display the emerging trends in art and graphic design at the turn of the century that strongly influenced more than 300 artists who created them.
